The William Buckland Radiotherapy Centre has two main reception areas,
both of which are comfortable, spacious and with garden views. The
receptionists’ duties are varied from staffing the two
reception desks, to ensuring that patient information is obtained in a
timely manner to enable optimum patient care. Each of the team of
caring and well-trained receptionists has a patient/visitor focus that
is aimed at making the visits of those in their temporary care as
trouble free as possible.
When
patients present to the reception desk on arrival, they are immediately
entered onto the computer system, ensuring that no one is overlooked.
For first time attendees there will be an uncomplicated registration
sheet to complete. Interpreters, for other languages and Auslan (sign)
can be organised on request. There is a Taxi phone available in the
reception area or the receptionists can assist with organising
transport if required.
Waiting
times for both clinic consultations and treatment at the WBRC are
particularly low, normally no more than a few minutes.
The
‘behind the scenes’ activity is quite
comprehensive. A Centre Manager looks after the financial and budgetary
aspects associated with the running of a large department like
Radiation Oncology, as well as ensuring that daily building and system
issues, infrastructure and refurbishment projects all run smoothly. A
billing clerk/receptionist has the role of looking after patient
accounts and other clerical support staff ensure that the medical
records are available on demand and that they are accurate and up to
date. We have a small pool of dedicated typists who work tirelessly to
ensure that our doctors always have an up to date electronic and hard
copy record to refer to. This also ensures that the patients GP and
other associated doctors are informed of the on-going progress of their
patients at the earliest possible time.
